Our Comprehensive Treatment Program

Treatment at the Gabel Center is designed to provide our clients with the tools to recover in an enriching, dignified, and solution-focused environment. The program is dedicated to increasing psychotherapeutic outcomes, complementing the more traditional therapeutic modalities.

With a foundation in 12-Step recovery, the program is designed to strategically fill perceptual, cognitive, and emotional gaps with tangible experiential material that is essentially unearthed from the unconscious mind.Upon admission, the client will be assigned a primary counselor and then receive a complete bio-psychosocial assessment which will be used by their “treatment team” to create an individualized and targeted treatment plan with specific therapeutic interventions, objectives, and recommendations.

The treatment itself is conducted along an innovative and eco-friendly curriculum that is “hands on.” With breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico, the program is uniquely designed to build self-esteem and to promote self-sufficiency, while at the same time, providing closure to underlying issues causing interpersonal and emotional distress and conflict. The following are subjects regularly addressed within the curriculum of the program:

  • Anger Management

  • Relapse Prevention

  • Communication Skills

  • Life Skills

  • Trauma Resolution

With an individualized approach towards treatment, the Gabel Center has also embraced a comprehensive catalogue of enriching activities to compliment and add depth to the therapeutic, emotional, and spiritual needs of the client:

Dual Diagnosis Track

According to the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), approximately 8.9 million adults suffer with co-occurring disorders, whereby they are simultaneously diagnosed with both a substance abuse and mental health disorder. Unfortunately, however, only approximately 7.4 percent of those individuals receive treatment for both conditions.

The Dual Diagnosis Track at the Gabel Center is designed to effectively integrate the treatment of both substance abuse and mental health disorders, thereby creating a more balanced and complete approach. In addition to participating in the experiential curriculum and cognitive-behavioral counseling within the Adult Treatment Program, clients in the Dual Diagnosis Track receive regular psychiatric consultations, medication management, and targeted case management to ensure continuity of care. The following are some of the disorders compassionately addressed within the Dual Diagnosis Track:

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Depression

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Anxiety

Experiential Therapies

At the Gabel Center drug and alcohl rehab, experiential therapies are more than just a buzz word. They are an integral part of our programming. In what we call Eco-Therapy, clients make use of the environment that surrounds the Gabel Center. In sailing therapy, clients learn to work as a team and problem solve. Always accompanied by a captain certified by the US Coast Guard as well as one of our therapists, safety is of paramount importance.

During sailaing therapy, our clients learn life lessons with their peers as they traverse the waters of the Gulf of Mexico that surround the Gabel Center. The purpose of our one of a kind sailing program is not just recreational, as we process with a therapist while on the water. Clients report this as being one of their favorite and most memorable experiences during their time in treatment. Often times, it is a new skill they can continue to hone as part of their after care program.

The Gabel Center is the only known program in the US to offer this innovative sailing curriculum as part of its drug and alcohol treatment.

Continuing Care

Often, persons in early recovery stumble upon leaving treatment. This is why continuing care planning and execution are so critical. At the Gabel Center, we give continuing care the attention it demands. Each client works with their therapist on continuing care planning beginning two weeks prior to discharge. Continuing care planning is unique and individualized for each client. Many clients choose to stay in the local area and continue outpatient treatment at the Gabel Center. Others return home, and continuing care arrangements are made there.
